Notes on busy season (October-March of the following year) (Point deadline, account deadline, data transfer, etc.)

2019.9.19

【Notes for busy season (2019 edition)】

As the deadline for graduation and master thesis approaches, the usage rate increases, the waiting time for the job increases, and the opportunity to execute the job decreases. Please use it systematically on a schedule with a margin.

The items that are considered to be particularly important during the busy season are summarized below, so please read them carefully.

1. Make wall time (h_rt) as short as possible
2. The expiration date for TSUBAME points is the end of the fiscal year
3. Account expiration date
4. Request for data transfer following graduation or transfer
5. About year-end maintenance
6. Changing the upper limit of resource occupancy during busy season

1. Make wall time (h_rt) as short as possible

Jobs are basically executed in order of submission. If the next job to be executed is a parallel job, even if some computation nodes are available, if the number is less than the number required for execution, these nodes will wait without doing anything until the number is complete.

Become. If a short time that ends by the scheduled start time of this parallel job is specified as the elapsed time (Wall Time), and it has been submitted after this time, the parallel job is overtaken to fill this gap.

Waiting time may be shortened (backfill). If the Wall Time value is unnecessarily large, jobs that could have been executed may not be able to enter this gap and waste resources. Specify a value closer to the actual execution time and submit the job.

2. The expiration date for TSUBAME points is the end of the fiscal year
TSUBAME points are valid at the end of the fiscal year. Please note that the remaining TSUBAME points will expire and cannot be refunded or transferred. Please note that maintenance will be performed every year at the end of the fiscal year, so it will not be available until 3/31.

3. Account expiration date
The validity period of the account using the student ID card, staff ID card, and preferential access card is the effective period of the Tokyo Institute of Technology IC card as stipulated in the Tokyo Institute of Technology Academic International Information Center Computer System Usage Regulations.

4. Request for data transfer following graduation or transfer
Every year, we receive many inquiries that the data transfer is not carried out properly and the data necessary for future research cannot be read.

-The data created by the user belongs to the user, and the user himself / herself has an obligation to appropriately manage, take over, and delete.

In addition, since it is extremely dangerous to operate various data with different capacities, number of files, and directory structure one by one with administrator authority, data movement or recovery work by GSIC is not a principle. In fact, some groups have tens of millions of files that cannot be handled individually.

Please make sure that group members can read and write data before the account is disabled, by pulling data to the lab once and setting appropriate permissions on the group disk. Delete unnecessary data as much as possible.

5. About fiscal year-end maintenance
The specific implementation date is still undecided, but the year-end maintenance will be carried out for about a week from the last week of March to the first week of April. Since you cannot log in at any time during the implementation, please be careful of future announcements so that you do not panic if the data cannot be retrieved in time. In particular, please note that if your IC card expires during maintenance, you will not be able to access your data even if operations resume.

6. Changing the upper limit of resource occupancy during busy season

As in the previous year, the number of parallel executions and concurrent executions will be changed during the busy season to equalize resource usage opportunities. Please check the announcement of 2019/03/18 for details.
